** Updated - Oct. 28, 2010 **

Nora is listed in the 1885 census of Millville, Clayton, IA as 4 years old. In 1895, Nora is in Jefferson, Dubuque, IA at the age of 14.  The 1905 census of Dubuque, Dubuque, IA, lists her in her father's home at 1046 15th St.

I hadn't been told, just happen to find a birth certificate for a child in Cook County, IL.  The parents were Nora Oneyear Martin and Burt Martin.  The child's name is not written but is a boy and the mother's first child.  The birth date is March  11, 1904 in Cook county, IL.  The mother was 23 and father 28 years old.  Place of birth says 901 S. Kedzie Ave.  No town.  The father is from Davenport, IA and mother is from Dubuque, IA.

Nora Elizabeth, the first daughter to Stephen and Mary, was born in Durango, IA., according to marriage license to George Spoerl in Dubuque, IA., on Feb. 18, 1908. He was 26 and she was 27 years old when they married, according to marriage records. Witnesses were Hilda Nagel and Katie Feller. J. W. Feller, M. G. presided. They had no children that lived, but at least one born was to them.   They are buried beside the child at the Asbury Cemetery in Dubuque.  They built their own log cabin and were bee keepers.  Stories from family members say Nora was a great cook.

Information compiled by Tina Oneyear from historical documents and help of many close and distant family members, with whom this wouldn't of been possible.  Also, a great deal of help, came from Eileen Switzer in IA.  Thank you to all that helped.

This site will be updated as more information is collected.
